Tom Moore

Tom Moore is a senior level consultant with Clearwater Business Advisers focused on providing interim CFO services for clients. Tom has the rare combination of adept analytical capabilities, innate relationship building aptitude and mission insight with broad senior-level experience in both not-for-profit and for-profit worlds

Tom demonstrated that “rare combination” as Executive Director of the Society for the Increase of the Ministry (SIM), stepping into this role as the first non-clergy leader in 150 years. In his ten years of leadership at SIM, Tom was able to build relationships with major donors and foundations to double the endowment, significantly reduce staffing and operating costs and build the reputation of the organization. Prior to his leadership at SIM, Tom served the national Episcopal church in significant roles:

  • Senior Adviser to the CEO of the now $10 billion Church Pension Fund;
  • Treasurer of the Episcopal Church;
  • Executive Director of the independent organization that interfaced with the Dean of Canterbury Cathedral.
Before his service to the Episcopal Church, Tom began his not-for-profit career at the Massachusetts General Hospital (MGH), where he served as venture project director and treasurer for board of trustees-initiated investments.

Prior to MGH, Tom was Senior Vice President and CFO for the Boston investment firm, Burgess and Leith, where he negotiated the sale of the firm to a larger investment firm in the early days on that industry’s consolidation.

After his MBA education, Tom began his career as the Assistant Treasurer for Coca Cola (Thomas) Company in his home town, Chattanooga, Tennessee, where he also attained his CPA.  Tom came to New England when Fortune’s 500th corporation, the Data General Corporation, recruited Tom to become Manager of Investor Relations.

Tom is married to the Reverend Helen Moore.  They have five adult children, three of whom live in the Boston area with their families.
